Richard Gere was finally cleared of obscenity yesterday for kissing Britain's Celebrity Big Brother winner Shilpa Shetty. Almost a year after a warrant was issued for the Hollywood star's arrest, it has been stayed by India's Supreme Court. Two judges said the Hindu activists who launched the case were "bringing a bad name to India".
Gere, 58, was accused of offending morality when he grabbed Bollywood star Shilpa, 32, at an anti-AIDS rally in New Delhi.
He bent her over and kissed her several times on the cheek.
Buddhist Gere has apologised for any offence he caused.
He is a frequent visitor to India, campaigning over the plight of Tibetan refugees there.
